The trouble with two doctors dating one another is the curse of the beeper. Mindy's been with busy guys before, of course, sports lawyers and pastors and oral surgeons, but OB/GYNs seem to be at the mercy of emergencies more than just about any other speciality (who knew babies didn't care about their romantic life?) and so it's not a rarity for Danny or Mindy to be forced away from a makeout session by Mrs. Whoever's premature labor.
Now, of course, that they're actually having sex, it's even more frustrating when Danny's beeper goes off, Mindy not even bothering to beg it off because what kind of doctor would she be if she deprived a patient of proper healthcare? Still, she sighs, tossing him his clothes so he can get dressed before she leaves him at the door with a kiss, not catching Kate's figure in the hall until she's ugh-ing in her doorway about another night's plans ruined.
"Oh, hey," she says, lifting her hand into a wave and then letting it drop to fix her tousled hair. "What's up?"

"With Danny, right?" she asks, even though she knows the answer to that question, having just seen him leaving. She'd smiled and waved, but hadn't stopped, mostly because he'd seemed like he was in a rush. "Why would he leave, though? Does he not spend the night? Do I have to kick him?"

"I take that to mean things are going well, though," she continues. "Despite his grand exit to go shove his hands into some other woman's vagina." She says it all with a bright grin, though, because delivering a baby is so not the same thing at all and she knows Mindy knows it.

Not that she would know. Not that she'll ever know.
"A month isn't that bad," she protests as she sinks down onto the couch and puts down her bag. "Newt and I waited like... god, a month? But he broke his leg for awhile there and you're right, a month is ages." It had felt like ages, anyway, when it had been her and Newt.

"A month is way too long," she says, shaking her head. Danny had kind of been a rarity. With most of the guys she'd dated prior to arriving to Darrow (or after arriving in Darrow? Remembering everything from New York out of nowhere is so confusing), the five date/two-thousand-dollar rule had been super hard to stick to. "Especially when you've known each other forever and already seen one another naked. Unresolved Sexual Tension is so overrated, let me tell you."
Never again, she hopes, as much as she tries not to get ahead of herself.

"But things are good?" she asks. "I don't have to give him a stern talking to or anything?" As far as she was able to tell from Mindy's birthday, she and the hot bookstore guy are still friends, though, and he'd probably be better at the whole threatening to break Danny's head if he hurts Mindy thing. Kate's ferocious, but he just looks more threatening than she does. If they remove the glasses anyway.

Then she pauses, reconsidering. "I mean, hot bookstore guy is pretty hot, so I guess I can see why he might be worried." Danny's pretty cute in his own way, but hot bookstore guy is something else. Not as hot as her own husband, but high up on Kate's imaginary would bang list.

And Mindy's been cheated on often enough that she knows the pain and wouldn't inflict it on anyone, let alone someone she's come to realise that she's in love with, even if Luke had been remotely interested. Danny dealt with that enough with Christina, anyway (that bitch.) Flawed in many ways, an adulterer Mindy is not. Not intentionally, at least. She's been the other woman unknowingly more than she cares to admit to.

Which she still doesn't get, but whatever, it's not her relationship to judge. It's just that in a place like Darrow, she thinks people should just be honest about what they feel. It'd be so much worse if Mindy had disappeared and he'd never had the chance to tell her.

Remembering the plane kiss brought it all back, but Danny remembering none of it had forced her to give up. Well, all but. "But I am very entertained at the image of that conversation between you two, so absolutely. Although I don't know how many people I was meant to be telling, at least at the start. Whatever, best friends totally don't count."
It's a rule that she's sure even her new, super private, super strict boyfriend will agree with.

"He should be telling everyone, too," she says. "He should be super proud and braggy like, all the time."

Or her, obviously, otherwise they wouldn't be dating now. The trail of slain dudes on the path to Danny was not without its heartache and self-doubt. "I just don't think we're, like, at the point of instagramming pictures of us making out, yet." Not that she's sure Danny will be at that point, but it's so happening. "It's fine, we're fine, he probably talks about me at the gym constantly."

The idea of actual locker room talk fascinates her.
"Do they really hang out all naked and shit?" she asks. "Can we go spy on men in a locker room? It seems like some weird counterculture and I want to know more."

The boxing gym he'd taken her to when she was trying to tone herself for Cliff's hot tub, for example, had the culture of a place where only a Batman villain could survive. Creepy and hot as hell, all at once. She's still always going to be a little disappointed that Tom Hardy-As-Bane never turned up, even if she had a boyfriend at the time.

And since Newt definitely doesn't have a gym, she's going to have to rely on Mindy's boyfriend and his three gyms. "Why three? Why would gyms have different cultures? God, gyms are weird, no wonder I don't go to them."

She'll need to eat an ice cream cake or something to make up for it.
"We can totally stalk a locker room if you want, though," she adds, starting to get a little entertained at the thought. "I think it's kind of lowkey illegal, though. But that's all relative, right?"

And Kate really doesn't want to go to jail. She's not sure what the sentence would be for looking at men in a locker room and she can't imagine it's that long, but she still doesn't want to be in jail for any length of time. It just doesn't seem like it would be much fun.
