a festival of lights
Nov. 3rd, 2015 08:08 pmIt's been a weird handful of weeks which Mindy's had to put down to Darrow being Darrow, setting aside her anxiety for her friends who have been ignoring her texts and tweets and instas and just relishing the fact that they're around again.
This is officially Mindy's first Diwali party.
She's, of course, been to dozens throughout her lifetime but that this is the first one that she's in charge of which is kind of incredibly daunting. Of course, she has next to no Indian friends in Darrow so most people have nothing to compare it to, but she still wants to get as much as right as she can. For the million of gods that may or may not be watching over her. For her parents back in Boston.
Which is why she's outsourced the catering and had help with the decorations, her apartment looking pretty awesome by the time she's finished setting things up on Saturday afternoon. Sheldon is happily munching on leaves in his tank out of the way in her bedroom, so she's left to focus on getting the playlist set up. Even back home, there had been more Britney Spears than Bollywood at their festivities, so she is shameless as she queues up Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
All that remains to be done by the time the food has arrived is to get dressed, and while Mindy had originally figured she'd just wear whatever pseudo Kate Spade get up she bought last week, she's gone a little bit traditional. She'd passed the store on her way to find somebody who knew how to make dosas and blue is totally her color.
She's so busy getting ready that it's not until the first of her guests arrived that Mindy realizes how nervous she is. Sure, she's hosted a bunch of parties in Darrow, but this one is something different. She hopes everybody likes it.
[Set to the afternoon (starting at about 1pm) of the 14th of November at Mindy's apartment. More info here. Tag in, tag around, have fun! Happy Diwali, Darrow!]
