"They need it to drink, not to live in," Danny answers, stifling a yawn with the back of his hand before clasping them together in his lap, unconsciously wringing them as he speaks. "You're thinking of a turtle. Tortoises are the old ones. Don't like change. Hide in their shell a lot. But you feed them lettuce," he adds, giving Mindy a look like he's imparting a life lesson, "and they're yours forever."

As an afterthought, he explains, "Lettuce is a green leafy vegetable."
